Mesta: Wool from the 13th century

Known as the erudite, the learned, the art-lover, Alfonso X, called the wise, surely understood the transhumance as a living art to be preserved. For this reason, he created the Honrado Concej de Mesta (Honourable Council of the Mesta) in 1273, the first association of transhumant cattle herders with the aim of establishing, organising and protecting the routes and pastures.
